Getting There in Musandam peninsula
Edit ThisThe Musandam Peninsula's designation as part of Oman can be somewhat deceiving when you're making travel plans. Technically, it's considered an enclave of Oman, meaning it is part of the country despite the fact that it is geographically connected to the United Arab Emirates. Nevertheless, it isn't to0 hard to get there, whether you decide to fly into Oman or the UAE.
Ferry Travel
Almost all flights into Oman land at the SEEB international airport in Muscat, the capitol city. Transport to Musandam Peninsula from Muscat was greatly simplified in 2008 when the
government launched the world's fastest diesel-powered passenger ferry.
The ferry connects Muscat with Khasab, the capital city of the Musadam peninsula. The ferry can cover the nearly 200 nautical miles between the two cities in approximately 6 hours, vastly simplifying
transport between the two disconnected pieces of Oman. The ferry offers
a fairly comfortable ride, since it's still quite new, and is almost
an attraction in itself. It offers a great view of the coastline and
the Persian Gulf. Fares are reasonable, although at present the ferry
only runs three times a week, so plan your arrival accordingly unless
you're trying to spend some of your vacation in Muscat.
Air Travel
The other main way to travel between the two capitol cities is by air. Oman Air provides flights directly from Muscat to Khasab, leaving out of SEEB
international airport.
Another option is to drive a car, although you should keep in mind that you will be crossing
borders, so factor that into your travel time.
