Getting Around in Musandam peninsula

Edit This

Musandam peninsula is an enclave of Oman. Jutting into the Strait of Hormuz, the peninsula is a great place to enjoy diving, hiking, and the natural beauty of the coast. Because the peninsula is not geographically connected to the rest of Oman, the only way to get there from Oman is by sea. You can also drive through the United Arab Emirates. The Musandam peninsula has a rugged terrain and its position on the edge between the Asian and Eurasian tectonic plates creates a contrast of mountains and hills and the fjords that run through the northern end of the peninsula.

Highway System

Modern development has made getting around the Musandam easier. There is now a fairly good highway that runs the entire west coast of the peninsula, coming across the border from the United Arab Emirates and going up the coastline through Bukha, one of Musandam's tourist stops, and into the capital city of Khasab. Once you have arrived at the northern end of the peninsula, the best way to explore the fjords and reach the more obscure villages is by boat. A traditional fishing boat called the dhow has been reinvented as a leisurely way to explore the waterways, offering snorkeling opportunities and a chance to see some of the peninsula's aquatic life up close. More modern boats are also available to rent, and there is even a refitted Baltic Trader, the Charlotte Anne , that can be rented for day trips or longer expeditions.
