Getting There in Masirah Island

  Masirah Island is located off the coast of Oman. It is small, hilly, with a coastline that offers some scenic beaches.

Ferry

To reach Oman one can take a flight to either Muscat or Salalah. Muscat is easier, as the Customs officials there are more used to handling tourists. Once in Muscat, hire a four wheel drive of some sort so that you can drive around on Masirah Island as well. To actually get to Masirah Island you have to take the ferry. This will drop you off near the main town of Hilf. There are a few hotels around the ferry that you can stay in. There are plenty of regular ferries, but they leave only at high tide. Consult someone about the tides before you head for Masirah Island. The ferry is used to tourists and their four-wheel drives, and will not cause any problems. You can load your four wheel drive with all the essentials that you need for a holiday in Masirah Island. Once in this paradise all you need to do is sit back and enjoy yourself.

Speedboat

If you would rather not take the ferry you can go to Masirah Island by speed boat. You have to pay about 2 OMR per person to use the speedboat. The four wheel drive will then be picked up by the next ferry trip if you leave the keys in the ignition. This too is a good way of getting to Masirah Island. Masirah Island has limited transport options to reach there, but the water rides are extremely enjoyable and make for pleasurable trips.
