Sights in Salmiya

Edit This

One thing that you are going to notice about the Salmiya Sights is that there isn’t much to see in Salmiya itself. The reason for this is that Salmiya is a district in the State of Kuwait. Even though Salmiya is one of the largest districts in Kuwait it is mainly a residential area, but also has a good-sized commercial area.

Salmiya Center

This is the largest shopping area in town. It covers all of the outer blocks of the Salmiya district. Not only is it the largest shopping area around the State of Kuwait it is also the oldest shopping center around. Looking at the Salmiya Center you will be able to get a feel for what things used to be like in Salmiya before modernization took place because it still has features of the old souk bazaars.

St. Therese Parish

This church didn’t become a chapel until 1974, but that has never stopped it from being one of the most popular churches in town. One of the best things about this church is its location, which is right in the center of Salmiya. While the outside of the church doesn’t provide much to look at visitors will find the inside of the church to be breathtaking.

Mosques

Around town you will find a large number of mosques, where the followers of Islam can go to worship. Although Westerners refer to mosques as all buildings that are used for worship, there is a fine distinction between the buildings. In Salmiya you will notice two different sized mosques. The smaller ones are only used for the daily prayers, which take place five times a day. The larger ones are also used for the daily prayers, but also for the Friday sermons.

Kuwait Towers

These towers are located in Kuwait City, which is about a 10-minute drive from Salmiya. These towers are worth a visit because of the view they provide each visitor. Imagine looking down upon the hundreds of people scurrying around the city. The tallest tower stands about 610 feet high, but you cannot go up to the top of that tower. The main tower provides visitors with the chance to see the view of the city from its observation deck that is about 403 feet above the city.

Beit al-Badr

If you enjoy history you need to come and see what one of the first houses in Kuwait looked like. This is a mud-built house, which was considered traditional back before oil became the major export in Kuwait. The house was built sometime between the years 1838 and 1848. You can find this mud-house next to Sadu House, which is another great place to visit.
