Kuwait City has experienced rapid development but it still has a strong connection with it's past. Kuwait City's history as well as it's recent development mean that there are many things to do while you are on holiday.

Failaka Island

Failaka Island is situated 20 kilometers away from the city center. The island is 12 kilometers long and 6 kilometers wide with a flat terrain. Springtime is a good time to visit the island. Failaka Island suffered great destruction during the Gulf War and it is now inhabited by soldiers. There are Greek ruins on the island as it was inhabited by Greeks during the 4th century. Kuwait's major archaeological site is also located on Failaka Island and the Ikarus and Azuk temples are worth a visit. Fishing, boating, swimming, sailing and water sports are all activities that can be enjoyed on Failaka Island.

The Liberation Tower

The Liberation Tower bears testament to Kuwait's independence. It was given this name after the Iraqi occupation came to an end. Construction of the tower was started before the Iraqi invasion but was only completed once Iraq withdrew from the area. Iraqi occupation ended in 1991 and the tower was completed and inaugurated in 1993. The tower is the fifth largest telecommunication tower in the world and it stands 372 meters tall. The tower has ceramic tiles from the base to the first level. It consists of a public communication area, a restaurant and an equipment structure. The tower has elevators which are amongst the fastest elevators in the world.

National Museum

The National Museum is situated between the Seif palace and National Assembly. The museum is noteworthy for its huge collection of Islamic art. The collection is one of the most extensive collections of Islamic art in the world and there are pieces of art that represent the beginnings of Islam.The museum is made up of four buildings as well as a planetarium. The building was vandalized and burnt by Iraqi soldiers during the Iraqi invasion but it has since been restored. Other exhibits include pear diving articles, archaeological relics from Failaka Island and a reference library. Plans for the museum were drawn by Michel Ecochard in 1960, construction began in 1981 and in 1983 the first buildings were inaugurated. The museum offers visitors a better understanding of Islamic identity, heritage and culture. Displays reflect social, economic, political and religious aspects of Kuwaiti people.

Entertainment City


Entertainment city boasts a variety of activities for a day filled with fun. It consists of Arab World, International World and Future World. There are also restaurants and cafes offering a variety of cuisine.

Kuwait Towers

Kuwait Towers offer magnificent views of Kuwait. The top area is a restaurant which can be reached in elevators. The lower area rotates every half an hour.

If there was a 6th must do, it would have to be shopping. Kuwait has some of the world's finest shopping malls including The Avenues: The largest shopping mall in the middlesat, mall 360: A very beautiful mall that houses the world's largest vertical garden and finally the Al-Kout mall: A luxirous, traditionally themed mall that has a very beautiful dancing fountain.
