Museums in Kuwait city
Edit ThisMuseums of Kuwait City
Kuwait City is home to several museums dedicated to the preservation and knowledge of Islamic art and history. If you wish to increase your understanding of Kuwait and Islam's deep history visit the Kuwait National Museum and the Tariq Majab Museum.
Kuwait National Museum
The Kuwait National Museum was inaugurated in 1983 and is home to some of Kuwait's most beautiful artifacts. Sadly, the Kuwait National Museum was mostly destroyed and looted during the Iraq war and subsequent occupation, but fortunately restoration has begun and several exhibits are open to the public. The National Museum also includes an exhibit (with English audio) detailing the Iraqi invasion and the defense by the Kuwait army and allied forces.
The Tariq Majab Museum
The Tariq Majab Museum (which does not charge an admission fee) is home to over 30,000 priceless artifacts. This museum has survived 2 invasions and has never given up it's goal of preservation and education of Kuwait's culture. The jewel of the museum is it's Calligraphy wing. Dedicated to the mapping of the Islamic world, it is an in-depth look into the ancient world.
Science and Natural History Museum
A visit to the Science and Natural History museum in Kuwait City will give you a good idea of the industry and lifestyle in modern Kuwait. The most notable exhibit is on the petroleum industry (Kuwait's largest industry). The petroleum exhibit contains artifacts and interesting displays from the industry's beginning to present. The Science and Natural History Museum also has a Planetarium that includes a galaxy show every night at 6 p.m.
