Aqaba Archaeological Museum
Visit the Aqaba Archaeological Museum for a glimpse of past Islamic times from the mid-7th to the beginning of the 12th century. Do not miss seeing the spectacular hoard of gold Fatimid dinars which were minted in Morocco.
Aqaba Fort
Explore Aqaba Fort, sometimes called Mamluk Fort, and wander around the ancient ramparts and battlements as soldiers once did centuries earlier. This castle was first built in the 12th century, and it was rebuilt in the 14th century under the orders of the last Mamluk Sultan.
Aqaba Museum
Located behind the Visitors Center is the must see Aqaba Museum, which was once the home of Sharif Hussein bin Ali, the great grandfather of King Hussein. Aqaba Museum displays a unique collection of original exhibits relating to the medieval city of Ayla (old Aqaba). You will see rare coins from Egypt and Iraq, ceramics from Ayla, 8th century Islamic stone tablets and some late Byzantine reliefs.
Museum of Aqaba Antiquities
The Museum of Aqaba Antiquities displays items from excavations in Aqaba and nearby Wadi Rum. For a fresh air historical experience take in "The Jordan Experience" show at the historical and beautiful Aqaba Gate. In recent times, archaeologists have unearthed what is believed to be the world’s oldest church, dating from the late 3rd century A.D.
