Festivals in Aqaba
Edit ThisAqaba is the only sea port town in Jordan, and it boasts many Aqaba Festivals that should not be missed. It is a popular beach resort and diving spot amongst diving enthusiasts and veteran travelers. Aqaba also has a rich Arabic culture and heritage, which is reflected in its festivals.
The Water festival
The Water festival is held every year on November 14th to celebrate the birthday of the late HM King Hussien Bin Talal of Jordan. During his rule, the King Hussien Bin Talal used to attend and conduct several water sport events throughout his country. It was during his reign that first International water skiing festival was help in Aqaba in 1972. During this festival, there are several water sports competitions that are conducted, and people from all Jordan take part in this event. The festival is held with much fanfare.
The Distant Festival
The Distant festival is held every year at Aqaba and Wadi Rum on the last Thursday in the month of July, and continues till the next day. This is a dance and music festival that features the world’s best DJs as well as some famous trance and electronic dancers. This is a one-of-its-kind festival set in the most unusual venue, the desert of Wadi Rum. It is an all-night party, and the celebrations continue the next day with a pool and beach party at Aqaba’s south beach. The Distant Festival gives tourist the perfect reason to let their hair down and enjoy great music in the wonderful Jordanian terrain.
