Beaches in Aqaba
Edit ThisThere is a wide mix of Aqaba Beaches, ranging from the snobbish, private beach-spots to the more accessible public beaches. Aqaba is Jordan’s only city with a substantial coastline. Hence, thousands of native visitors apart from the foreign visitors can be found soaking-up the fun at Aqaba beaches.
Overview of Aqaba Public Beaches
Most of the public beaches are found along Aqaba’s south coast. This is an easy-to-reach area, located at a distance of few minutes from the popular downtown area. All the local beaches are under the jurisdiction of the Aqaba Marine Park. All the beaches in Aqaba can be broadly divided into 3, main beach zones—north beach zone, middle beach zone and south beach zone. The most popular beaches across these zones include:
Internationally Popular Beaches: Barracuda Beach
This is one of Aqaba’s most popular and affordable diving centers. The Barracuda Diving Club is administered by professional divers. The diving community here consists of native and international divers. The diving gear and diving instructors are easily available. This is probably the safest spot in Aqaba for learning the basics of deep-sea diving. It also consists of a luxurious beach-house where entry is strictly through a personal recommendation from the existing members. The Barracuda is also popular for its globally-renowned snorkeling facilities. Many times, local snorkeling events are held that often engage international participation. The sandy spread is maintained in the most hygienic manner. However, the rush can be maddening at times. Those looking for a more peaceful spot can rent a hammock or enter the lounge area. Other easily-available rentals include banana-shaped boat buggies. Visitors can also catch a game of beach volleyball.

Recently-opened Beaches: Palm Beach
The most recently-opened public beach-spot is the Al-Hafayer Beach. It was previously called the Al-Ghandoor Beach. This is the only beachfront in Aqaba that is located along the interior of the city. Many locals refer to it as the Palm Beach also. This beach isn't the most suitable location for international travelers. It is administered by some conservative rules. Women in swimming gear are not allowed. This is the most unusually-located beachfront in Aqaba, being surrounded by historical building on all sides. It provides an amazing view of historic spots such as the Great Arab Revolt Square. Toward the east lies the crop gardens that develop into an exotic, bright-green shade during the growing season.
- Direction: east from the Big Flag, near the Royal Yacht Club.
Best of Family Beaches: Tala Bay
This beach-spot is preferred by families vacationing in Aqaba. It is located in the vicinity of some affordable, accommodation facilities. The beachfront is massive and hence, the usual jostling-for-space is less prevalent. There is a golf-course along the southern-end of the Tala. Part of the Tala Bay complex consists of a marina that serves as the entry point to Jordan’s mainland. This spot consists of some road-side shopping options that are worth a visit, offering some amazingly affordable deals.
- Location: South Beach Road, southern beach zone, Aqaba.
