The Israel Museam
Edit This
The Israel Museum is probably the most important museum in Israel. Nowhere else in Israel or perhaps even the world will you ever find a better tribute to the fascinating history of the Jewish people. The museum is also dedicated to the creative arts of the Jews. However the exhibits within the museum are also feature non Jewish topics such as the collection of pre-Columbian Central American art. The museum is actually divided up into five sections each centring on a particular subject. The Judaica Wing is dedicated to artifacts from the Jewish communities around the globe. I was quite impressed by the Walter and Charlotte Floersheimer Pavilion for Impressionist and Post-Impressionist Art. The section features strong works by artists like Dufy, Corot, Monet and Degas. I was really impressed by this small but very good collection. The exterior grounds of the museum are also quite interesting with the Billy Rose Art Garden which is a sculpture garden featuring such artist as Picasso, Moore and Rodin. The grounds also hold a collection of Roman, Hellanic and Jewish artifacts and mosiacs, the latter being very interesting. Finally the Israel Museum is most famed for the Shrine of the Book which holds the Dead Sea Scrolls.
