Getting There
Edit ThisOne great way to get around Israel in general is the train. The Jerusalem-Tel Aviv line has been renovated and is a must. It follows the Sorek valley with its steep hills dotted with pine forests, olive orchards, and vineyards. The train takes about an hour and a half and costs very little. The two stations in Jerusalem are the Biblical Zoo and Malha. The second one(the terminus) is also the best for those heading to the Old City and the downtown area. There are buses outside the railway station. Trains do NOT run on Saturdays.
In a couple of years the high speed rail and the Jerusalem subway line may be completed. The high speed rail will only take thirty minutes.
Those in Jerusalem can also use the train to go other major sights in Israel including Haifa, Akko, Ashkelon, Netanya, Beer Sheva, and Naharia.
The national Bus company EGGED serves Jerusalem and operates from a terminal in NW Jerusalem on Yafo Road. Buses do NOT run to Jerusalem on Saturdays.
