1. Golestan Place

Tehran is the center of Iranian culture and politics. No place illustrates this more then Golestan Place. This building is one of the oldest historical monuments in Tehran. The palace one served as royal residence. Visitors are encouraged to come here to see the beauty of Persian architecture. There is a certain calmness and tranquility not found in the rest of Tehran. There is a historical museum highlighting the Qajar period and a rose garden for visitors to enjoy.

2. Treasury of National Jewels

The Treasury of National Jewels is the largest collection of precious gems in the world. The collection dates back 25 centuries, the most documented of which is that of the Safavid dynasty. This collection is located in the Central Bank of Iran and is open from 2:00 to 4:30p.m. from Saturday to Tuesday. Researchers can come in at different times with the appropriate government permissions.

3. National Museum of Iran

The National Museum of Iran opened in 1997 and represents artifacts from Iran’s history. There are a number of items from coins to calligraphy for those interested in Iran’s past. In additional, there are a number of tapestries and carpets that have been gathered from the different regions of the country. For those who are interested in Iran’s cultural past, this museum is a must see.

4. Jamshidieh Park

Jamshidieh Park was established in honor of Qajar at the base of Kolakchal Mountain. This park is nice refuge from the city and not far for people looking for a day trip. There are a number of hiking trails for people interested in exploring the mountain. For refreshments visitors should check out the restaurants and tea houses surrounding the park.

5. Tehran Bazaar

The Tehran Bazaar is a massive collection of stalls, stores and outlets. Located in the South and by the Panzdah-e-khordad Metro stop, the market is a place to buy goods and foods. It is recommended that if a visitor intends to go outside the city to the more remote areas that they first stop here for supplies. People who are interested in Iranian history will be surprised to find out that this market was a hotspot during the Iranian Revolution. Many of the protesters against the Shah met here to discuss and carry out plans. There are still shrines to the movement in the bazaar.
