Folk Art Museum
This museum is open 5 days a week. Monday through Friday the museum is open from 8:30 am to 1 pm and then again from 2 pm to 4 pm. On Saturdays the museum is open from 8:30 am to 1 pm. Inside the museum you will find a large collection of folk art from the Cypriot region. The folk art contained inside the building is from the 19th and 20th century, but only the early part of the 20th century.
St. John’s Cathedral
This cathedral draws many visitors because of its beautiful architecture and exquisite designs. The cathedral was built by Archbishop Nikiforos in 1662. Inside the cathedral you will be amazed at how intricate the designs are, but you will also be able to look at all of the wood that has been covered in gold leaf. Perhaps the most notable decorations are the double-headed eagles.
Cyprus Archaeological Museum
One of the best things about this museum is that it is open daily, but it is closed for Easter, New Year’s Day, and Christmas Day. Inside the museum you will be able to find different artifacts from all of the major civilizations that were in the Cyprus area at some point in time. The artifacts inside the museum can be dated back to the Neolithic period, which is testament enough about how important the Cyprus area was to the advancement of future civilizations.
If museums and churches are not your thing, you will want to check out Laiki Yitonia, which is the best preserved historic area in Nicosia. Inside the walled city you will be able to wander through all of the area on foot. On your walking tour, you will be able to see some of the native architecture that has been well preserved, but you can also see some of the traditional shops and houses that represent the city.
Cyprus Handicraft Centre
Visiting this center will allow you to see local artists at work, but will also enable you to purchase a handmade souvenir. The hours for the workshops and shops are going to vary based on the time of year that you visit, but for the most part the workshops and shops are only open Monday through Friday.
