Getting There in Nicosia
Edit ThisThis "Nicosia-getting there" guide will provide you with useful information about how to reach Nicosia.
By Plane
Nicosia International Airport has been shut down since the partition of the country into Northern Cyrpus and the Republic of Cyprus. However, Larnaca International Airport has regular flights to many European cities. You can reach the airport through the airport shuttle bus operating between LCA and Nicosia. Paphos Airport, a relatively small airport, is situated around 140 kilometers from Nicosia.
By Boat
You can also reach Nicosia by boat. Limassol and Larnaca are the two major ports which are located 80 and 40 kilometers away from Nicosia, respectively. These ports are also connected to countries like Israel and Greece. Remember that the schedules change according to the tourist season. Summer season is the busiest season with the most scheduled ferries to Nicosia.
By Road
The southern highway route via Larnaca and Limassol is the most preferred road route for reaching Nicosia. Cheap intercity bus and taxi services are also available from Cyprus. Private-hire taxis are a relatively expensive alternative. Car hire is another affordable option for reaching Nicosia; you can hire cars from the Larnaca International Airport and Paphos Airport.
Ledra Street Crossing
You can enter Nicosia by road via the Ledra Street crossing which was opened in April 2008. This crossing passes through the United Nations Buffer Zone. Remember to carry your IDs as an ID check is done at the Northern Cyprus customs and immigration post.
