Cyprus - Eyewitness Travel Guides
Edit ThisCyprus, in the Eyewitness Travel Guides series by Paphos Books, offers a decent guide book for a trip to Cyprus. The Eyewitness Travel Guide series specializes in a colorful and bright format that features lots of pictures, old and new, and maps to give you an idea of what traveling there is like. You could argue that it's a better companion for the armchair traveler than the one who actually visits places like Cyprus. However, the book still has a lot of worthwhile information, so don't throw it out offhand.
Contents
The guide starts out with a history of Cyprus, then breaks it down region by region, beginning with a brief overview before getting slightly more in-depth, breaking it down into west Cyprus, which covers southern Cyprus and the Troodos Mountains, central Cyprus, north Cyprus and South Nicosia. The next major section is devoted to where to stay and what to do during your stay in Cyprus. The Cyprus Eyewitness Travel Guide offers tips on where to eat, where to shop, entertainment and outdoor activities. The most useful section might be at the end of the book, which offers up the practical and travel information. Also included at the end is a handy phrase book, which, although it is probably worthwhile to invest in a more substantive phrasebook, will do in a pinch.
Taken as a whole, this Cyprus travel guide is useful as an overview of what you should know if you're going to visit Cyprus, or as a good way to decide before you leave whether you really want to travel there. At $20 list price, it's not a substantial investment, and the pictures alone make it entertaining to flip through.
