Top 5 Must Do's in Ayia napa

Edit This

On the Mediterranean island of Cyprus, Ayia Napa has become a hot spot for night life and carousing until the early morning hours. While the many clubs and bars and the beautiful beaches are certainly inviting, there's more to do here than just to drink your vacation away. Once a small fishing village named for it's patron saint, Saint Napa, Ayia Napa has blossomed into one of the best destinations for tourists and travelers in the Mediterranean.

Must Do #1

The main draw of Ayia Napa is the night life, and for good reason. The best time to go is during the summer, during which time the tourists far outnumber the natives, and the city has the feel of a gigantic 24 hour club. Most of the night life in Aiya Napa begins in the square in the center of the city that is filled with bars from Bedrock to Castle Club. Because everything stays open all night, the action at the bars and clubs doesn't get into full swing until fairly late, 11 p.m. to midnight, typically.

Must Do #2

At the center of Aiya Napa you will find the monastery, for over 400 years the heart of the city. Built by the Venetians just before the Turkish invasion of 1570, the Aiya Napa Monastery is in great shape and well worth a visit.

Must Do #3

The Macronissos Tombs are 19 tombs cut into the solid rock near Aiya Napa. Looted repeatedly by grave-robbers throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, the tombs where finally restored and excavated by the city of Aiya Napa in the late 1980s. The tombs are very interesting, since they date back to the Roman period on Cyprus. There is also a small shrine at the center of the tombs.

Must Do #4

The beaches are one of Aiya Napa's main attractions. Check out Nissi Beach, a beautiful beach that was one of the first to attract attention from tourists. Limnara Beach is a small beach that offers picturesque views and shelter from the wind.

Must Do #5

Head to Protaras Avenue to find Aiya Napa's Ocean Aquarium. The Aquarium is divided into 3 main sections: fish, outdoors and the the penguin house. There are over 400 species of fish in the fish section, including sharks, eels, piranas and stingrays. In the outdoor section you will find a crocodile area, turtles, and a cafe.
