Hotel Zarafshan

Less than 10 US dollars a double. The Zarafshan used to be a pit. It has improved vastly in the last few years. A room should cost between 2 and 10 dollars depending on your knowledge of the local languages. Bargain hard here. Reportedly, the rooms usually have hot water. All rooms have a flushing toilet and a shower. The beds are of the same design of all but the 5 star hotels in the former Soviet Union, these are just a bit older. On the ground floor is the "Korean Restaurant". It is one of the best places in the city and offers Samarkand beer on tap. The help usually speaks some English. The daughter of the owner speaks English excellently. Dinner should be no more than 2 dollars.
