Hotel Amelia is located just near to the central part of Bukhara, Lyabi Hauz. It is a small family-run hotel which is a 19th century jewish merchant's house, but newly decorated.  The hotel has only five rooms, which means it feels quite relaxed.  Each room has air conditioning, TV, ensuite (very clean!) bathrooms, minibar, phone with international access and traditional furnishings in Uzbek style. There is a lovely aivan (verandah) on which breakfast is served, and where you can sit and plan your day, or read, or just relax.

Hotel Bukhara - New Inturist Hotel

15 minute walk from the center. Don't book this hotel unless you are travelling with a large group. It is the nicest and the cleanest of the government controlled hotels, but also over-priced. The service is terrible as is the selection at the bar. The hotel is the location of the locals favorite disco, offers an immaculate gym (no aerobic facilities) and a very expensive restaurant. You can get the same food at other restaurants in the city and pay one fifth of the price.

Hotel Zarafshan

Less than 10 US dollars a double. The Zarafshan used to be a pit. It has improved vastly in the last few years. A room should cost between 2 and 10 dollars depending on your knowledge of the local languages. Bargain hard here. Reportedly, the rooms usually have hot water. All rooms have a flushing toilet and a shower. The beds are of the same design of all but the 5 star hotels in the former Soviet Union, these are just a bit older. Hotel Varakshan

This is a nice middle of the road hotel, between the Old Inturist and the Zarafshan. Rooms will cost between 10 and 20 US dollars a night. Unlike most places in Bukhara, the prices are posted in English behind the counter. The counter help here usually speaks some English and the hotel is considered very safe. You can count on clean rooms and hot water.

Hotel Bukhara - Old Inturist

Before the recent construction of the New Inturist Hotel, this was the flagship of Soviet Uzbekistan in Bukhara. It is adjacent to the New Inturist. It has an outdoor disco on the top floor, which operates late Spring to early Fall. It is the destination of those who do not want to pay the cover charge at the New Inturist's disco. It is a cheaper alternative to the New Inturist if you are booking for a large group, but also not recommended. The rooms will be clean, but spartan. Hot water is usually available.
