Getting Around in Dushanbe
Edit ThisHow to Travel Within Dushanbe
This Dushanbe transportation guide will help you with different ways of traveling within the city. Travel options within the city are limited but cheap.
Buses and Minibuses
One of the easiest ways to travel around the city is by buses and minibuses, which are also known as Marshrutka. Most of these buses have a route number displayed on its front window. They can be hailed from anywhere. A trip in the regular buses can cost around 40 dirhams, and those by minibuses cost about 20 to 30 dirhams.
Taxi
Tourists can also hire taxis to travel around the city. You can find them at taxi stands on most streets. The average fare for a taxi ride costs around $2 to $4. However, fares usually go up if you are traveling after midnight. This can cost around $6 to $7.
Walking
If time permits, walking around the city can be quite interesting. Starting from the city center, which is a long street, tourists can make their way to other intersecting streets where they can visit a few monuments and museums.
An important thing for tourists to remember when traveling around Dushanbe is that not all the streets have proper names. For this reason, tourists should know the different landmarks and remember how to reach them. Most taxi drivers know the airport, opera-ballet, and Somoni statue, but not more than that. So learning to say “go right”, “go left” and “straight ahead” in Tajik or Russian can be very helpful for tourists.
