A twenty minute drive from San Ignacio on a scenic and decent dirt road you can find the ancient murals of Faical. Very little is known about this prehistoric graffitti, as passing archeologists dated them to 1800 to 5000 years old. Either way they are fascinating. It's another 'visit it before it disapears' attraction, as the cutting down of the forest about 25 years ago meant the sun started bleaching the ink. As noone seems to be willing to have the decency to protect them from the sun, some people think they might disapear altogether withen the next 10 to 15 years. Located at a steep rocky part of a small mountain, the landscape in itself is worth the trip. Entrance is 2 soles per person. There is a small restaurant near the site. To get there you'll probably have to rent a car with driver for a couple of hours, which might cost you some 50 soles.
