Cruises in Cape Town
Edit ThisA cruise to Cape Town is a wonderful experience. These days, not many major companies cruise to this area but you can find a few that will take you past Table Mountain and through whale country. There are some smaller cruise lines that originate in Cape Town as well.
Princess Lines and Regent Lines
Princess Lines and Regent Lines both have cruises that include Cape Town in their itinerary. They usually come from either California or Florida and some run 56 days, some 36 days and some 14 days. Prices for these cruises are rather expensive but it does include all food as well. Expect to pay anywhere from $3500 to $16,000 depending on other ports of call.
Silver Wind Cruises
Silver Wind Cruises start in Cape Town or nearby and will take you all around Africa to see sites of interest including Addo Elephant Park near Elizabeth, the Tala Game Reserve in Durban, St. Lucia Wetlands in KwaZulu-Natal, and other game reserves ending up in Mozambique to shop. Madagascar is also on the itinerary, Silver Wind Cruises have luxury ships with ocean view suites and feature a restaurant with classical and modern French Cuisine. It also provides entertainment but does not include government fees or personal expenses. This trip runs about $4000.
Waterfront Boat Company
Waterfront Boat Company in Cape Town provides various mini cruises. One is called the Sunset Champagne Cruise. Sail boats sail into the harbor and sail across Table Bay toward the Milnerton Lighthouse. They then return to Granger Bay to face the setting sun. This is a 90 minute trip that costs $200.
Another cruise goes to watch whales from June to November. Qualified guides will show “cruisers” African Penguins, Fur Seals, Dolphins, Sharks, Sunfish and bird life while waiting to see whales. This trip takes about 3 to 4 hours and costs $400.
The Robben Island Coastal Cruise goes to where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 27 years. The boat doesn’t dock on the island but you will see breath taking scenery of the island and of Cape Town and Table Mountain. Cost is $200.
Whether you take one of the expensive, multiple day cruises for a lot of money, or one of the moderate cruises- you will surely be pleased. The scenery of the area surpasses the expectations of any tourist! These cruises will provide you with countless beautiful, photo opportunities. Don't forget the camera!
