Eating Out in Calabar
Edit ThisNo trip to Nigeria is complete without sampling the local food. There are plenty of Calabar restaurants that offer you authentic Nigerian delicacies that you must sample. But if you are not in the mood for staple Nigerian fare you could head over to a few popular restaurants that offer you a choice of Chinese or Asian cuisines.
Eating Out in Calabar
To tingle your palate and taste a few Nigerian delicacies, visit Bogobori Corner. There are plenty of vendors that sell "suya" a known African staple. You can also choose to dine at your own hotel. Each hotel offers different dining options, so take a look at the menu before you decide to hit the streets to search for good restaurants in your area. Hotel Mirage is also known for its Chinese restaurant. However, the prices are much higher than most other restaurants and the menu isn’t very extensive. Freddies is an equally well-known local restaurant in Calabar. You can order anything from salads to fish and meats or choose to sip a few local wines and spirits.
Must-Have
You can’t possibly miss out on the Edikang Ikong soup that incidentally originated from Calabar. Like several other African soups, it’s made with stockfish, snails and crawfish. You should also try the African pounded yam preparation. Locals swear by it!
