Take a Trip to the Nearby Inhaca Island
A Maputo Day Trip to the nearby island of Inhaca is one of the most popular day trip choices among both guests and residents of the Mozambique capital. The island is located less than 40km/24 miles east of Maputo and is easily accessible by water and air. A flight from the Maputo International Airport to Inhaca Airport lasts less than 15 minutes, but you can also take the cheaper ferry, which will transfer you to the island for about 2 hours.
Places to Visit
The main places of interest on the island are the Marine Biology Museum and the Inhaca Lighthouse. The local village is an interesting sight too, since it is surrounded by lovely coconut palms and exotic green plants. In the village, there is a great seafood restaurant called Lucas. You should definitely try it, as their meals are delicious. You should also visit the Pestana Inhaca Lodge - a nice local resort, offering great accommodation and excellent food choice.
Things to Do
The long sunny days and fine beaches make Inhaca an excellent place for sunbathing and practicing all kinds of water sports. The Santa Maria reef right next to the island is the main attraction for snorkelers and divers. Among the more exciting options for them are cave diving and wreck diving. The waters are perfect for windsurfing and fishing. Various boat trips are available – you should definitely take the boat trip to the deserted Portuguese island, which is less than 2km (1.2 miles) north of Inhaca.
