explore a whole new world. Located in northern Morocco, Tangier is a
tourist attraction with a rich cultural heritage. Read on to find out
about the must-do activities in Tangier.
Hercules Cave
The Hercules Cave is a must-see attraction in Tangier. As per
mythology, this was where Hercules used to rest. The cave in reality is a
combination of a man-made and a natural phenomenon. You will have to
travel 14 km from Tangier to view this monument. For centuries the caves
have been used as dwellings and you will find several passage ways in
the caves. The caves are said to be carved by ancient Moroccans. Only
parts of the caves are open to the public. Swimming here is restricted
due to strong currents.
Moroccan Art Museum
The
Moroccan Art Museum is located inside the apartment of the Prince in
Dar Makhzen. Originally, it used to be the palace of the governor and
was built during the 17th century. You can find artifacts that go back
to the Stone Age. The museum also offers the visitors a peek into the
preserved and highly cherished Roman mosaics. You can view various silks
and centuries-old dishes and manuscripts at this museum.
Forbes
Museum
This museum was founded by Malcolm Forbes, an
American publisher. The museum stands on a 10-acre property. The museum
has a collection of around 115,000 models of toy soldiers. These toy
soldiers narrate the battles, like Waterloo, with sound effects and
lighting. It is located in the Palais Mendoub area and is currently run
by the government.
Cape Spartel
Drive up to
Cape Spartel and witness the most amazing views that nature has to
offer. This is a must-do activity in Tangier. The drive to Cape Spartel
will leave you with fond memories. Roll down the window and take in the
refreshing scent of eucalyptus and pine trees that fill the air. The
sandy beaches will keep you company till you reach Cape Spartel. Once
there walk to the lighthouse and get ready to be mesmerized by the
views. You can witness the meeting point of the Mediterranean Sea and
the Atlantic Ocean. The dark blue water of the sea and the turquoise
water of the ocean meet and create a magical effect.
Grand
Socco
The Grand Socco is right at the heart of Tangier. It
is a large market that offers the visitors a peek into the local
lifestyle. Today, the market place is buzzing with restaurants and
cafes. Here you can notice the difference between the new and the old
city. This part of Tangier reflects its past with narrow roads, snake
charmers and storytellers. Musicians line up on the streets and offer
entertainment to the people.
