Hotel Merzouga

In the heart of the old desert village of Hassi Labied this is a new hotel that Ive seen similar contemporary and interesting interior designs at its sister auberge of Auberge du Sud which is up near Erg Chebbi where Ive also stayed a few times before.

Instead of the sprawling hotel with large dining and lounge rooms at its sister hotel this is a small, intimate hotel with only 4 rooms which allows more peace and quiet but big enough to not be too alone.
Central dining and lounge area is supplemented by a large area on the roof which is nice for sitting out in the heat of the evenings or to sit under the vast twinkling starry sky at night - also fine if you want to sit up there on a warm summer morning for your breakfast.

Roofs are always great for people watching from and being in the centre of the village this is a great place for spending some time in the early morning to see the early morning goings on. A few power lines are in the way of getting good shots through to the surrounding dunes but you do get views none the less.

Always in demand is the availability of wifi - good reception here with an internet cafe right next door - also handy if you dont have a laptop.
All rooms have aircondiitioning and ensuites.

A few minutes walk away is a palmeraie that you can visit and roam around in - and of course the management of Riad Aicha can provide anything you wish in the way of visiting the dunes or further afield - sunset, sunrise or overnight camel trips, 2 or 3 camel trips into the desert or even 10 day trips to Zagora - all at very reasonable rates. 4x4 excursions can be arranged or if you want to take the services of one of the staff to go with you in your normal drive car to nearby sights then that is possible also.

Good value to stay here with dinner, bed and breakfast for 300 dirham per person.
