Dar el Khamlia is a private house in a little village Khamlia not so far from Merzouga on way to Taouz. It is a perfect place for the ones who does not want many tourists around. It is perfect also for them who are tired of hotels and want to be near the local people, to learn more about their life and many other things. Haven La Chance Desert Hotel is located by the sand dunes near Hassi Lybed- 4 km north of Merzouga village. It is owned and operated by an American and a local Berber so the hotel strives to be modern and clean while preserving local architecture and building materials. It has 10 double/triple bedrooms with 7 having ensuite shower/toilets.

Chez Gerard et Francoise

Near Merzouga (1 1/2 km south from town), is my personal favorite. You can either camp out in the dunes or stay in a wonderfully decorated room. The restaurant serves delicious, huge Moroccan meals.

While it was a very nice hotel, it was destroyed in the floods of may, 2006. I am sure it will be rebuilt but as of today (December 2, 2006), it is not available.

Yasmina is a nice place, sometimes in the wintertime near a lake with flamingos. For the birdlovers it is an interesting place, because the desertsparow is living here. Yasmina has very comfortable rooms, nicely decorated in modern moroccan style. Of course every room has a shower with hot and cold water and WC. In the summertime you can sleep outside on the roof, looking at the beautiful stars. You can also spend the night in a traditional Berbertent . In the heart of the old desert village of Hassi Labied this is a new hotel that Ive seen similar contemporary and interesting interior designs at its sister auberge of Auberge du Sud which is up near Erg Chebbi where Ive also stayed a few times before.

Instead of the sprawling hotel with large dining and lounge rooms at its sister hotel this is a small, intimate hotel with only 4 rooms which allows more peace and quiet but big enough to not be too alone.
Central dining and lounge area is supplemented by a large area on the roof which is nice for sitting out in the heat more..
