Hotel Majestic on 40 rue Derbe Laalouj (044/47 24 98) has good, cheap, clean rooms in a central location. Fills up fast in the summer.
Hotel Villa Maroc on 10 rue Abdallah Ben Yassin is a gorgeous, five star hotel. At low season, prices can be negotiated. The rooms and suites, decorated with the finest Moroccan taste, are grouped around a courtyard in an old, converted mansion.
Camping d’Essaouira is 300 meters outside the walls past the Hotel des Iles.

Dar 91 is a lovely, private and self-contained house with its own roof terraces, in the Chbanat district of the walled old town of Essaouira (near the Bab Doukkala). It's beautifully done out, with lots of quirky modern elements but a fundamentally Moroccan feel. When you book you get the place to yourselves, so there's lots of space to chill out, and great views from the terrace.

My good friend Fouad who runs a carpet shop also offers self catered accomodation. a perfect nest for a couple who wants to make some time together. Recently decorated with very good taste the apartment has a large private terrace, a very good view on the Atlantic Ocean, one bedroom, bathroom with shower and "roman" toilet (so Morrocans call it ;) and a large kitchen area opened on a confortable living room.
