The Mulanje (Englich: The island in the sky) Mountains provide great hiking in southern Malawi. Traversing Mulanje takes about 3 to 4 days. On the Mountain there are huts equipted with firewood and a caretaker, but facilities are going to be improved in the near future. There are no food and blankets available on the mountain.
The trip schould be started at Likhubula Forest Station. This is where accomodation has to be payed for in advance(around 5 USD per night). At Likhubula there is a variety of official guides porters who offer their services. Going without a guid is not advised but possible.
