Perinet Travel GuideEdit This The best resource for sights, hotels, restaurants, bars, what to do and see
Perinet (Analamazoatra) is truly an amazing place. Located in the eastern high rainforest, it is the best place to see Madagascar's largest lemur, the Indri. The call of the Indri is spectacular, able to be heard over a great distance. They vocalize mainly in the morning and travel in groups. Their call is very similar to whale song. Once you've heard it, it is unforgettable.
There are many walking trails in the Perinet reserve. The best place to start is the visitors center where you can learn a lot about the Indri and other animals that live in the forest. Find a local guide to take you on one of the many trails, and your adventure has begun. There are so many different species to see there. Stop at the old train station at the end of the road for a meal.
A great place to stay while you are there is Eulophiella, a new nature lodge in the middle of the rainforest. The lodge is named after an orchid that is found in the area. It is several miles away from the main road and very secluded and peaceful. The bungalows are nice, but be prepared. There is no air conditioning or heat and it can get very cold there in the morning. There is hot water and a flush toilet however! The rates there are good and the meals are tasty. You may even be woke up by the Indri calling! Local giudes are available to take groups out on nature walks.
