Le Masoandro Restaurant / Chez Maggie Hotel
I ate here my first night in Morondava and still sometimes wake in the night craving the crabs sautéed in butter and garlic that are equaled nowhere else in Morondava, at the very least. The restaurant does set the menus at the high end of Morondava’s expense range, but it’s often worth it. However the ambience is one of the best to be had if you are looking for gently bulging sofas amongst rustling palms.
West-facing and located directly on the beach, Le Masoandro Restaurant & Bar provides an especially romantic setting to enjoy a meal or cool drink as the sun sets over the Mozambique Channel. The hotel features spacious bungalows and cute circular chalets which look like they have been airlifted straight off a particularly well-off pacific-island village.
Head chef, Nirina, (formerly at the Chez Cucu) carefully prepares a wide range of appetizers and main dishes adding her own special touch. Local fishermen deliver a variety of fish and seafood each day, and tender Zebu steaks and fresh vegetables round out the offerings. French Fry Footnote: Nirina gets them right!
Open to the public the full service bar features Morondava’s largest selection of imported whisky and scotch, Gerard’s coco rum and a variety of local libations. The staff is welcoming and friendly and the new (2003) Malagasy / American partnership and management team is conversant in English, Malagasy, French, and German.
Come to Chez Maggie for some of the best seafood and intimate ambience available in Nosy Kely, at prices that can’t possibly stay the same for long.
Main course 25-35,000 fmg Menu: 75,000 fmg
