Getting Around in Tripoli
Edit ThisVisitors can look forward to plenty of options offered as a part of Tripoli transportation. Located in the northern part of Libya, Tripoli is the nation’s capital and its most important city. Tripoli has many sights to offer, including some offshore islands and plenty of historic buildings. Getting around in Tripoli isn't difficult. The city is increasingly attracting attention as a major, African tourist destination, and the transportation facilities have improved considerably.
Buses
In terms of ease-of-use, public buses aren’t the best option. The signs and the routes are explained in Arabic text. Visitors need to ask for directions to find the connecting bus and interpret the route. Further, the buses tend to make unscheduled stops that can be quite frustrating.
Taxis
Renting a taxi is perhaps the best form of getting around in Tripoli. There are plenty of taxis plying on the roads and the fares are rather cheap. Visitors can further save costs by sharing a taxi. The yellow-and-white taxis are shared taxis, whereas the black-and-white taxis don’t share the ride. The most accessible taxi stand is at the Sharia al-Corniche.
Tripoli Car Hire
Tripoli doesn’t have the usual mix of international, car-hire brands. The city has its own version of car rentals that can be a bit demanding for first-time visitors. It is recommended that the car rental offices near the airport or the five-star hotels are approached. These firms offer better services and many packaged deals. However, car hires are usually expensive in Tripoli. One renowned car rental firm is the Al-Mehari Car Rental (part of the Al-Mehari Hotel complex).
