The ancient city of cyrene is situated in the eastern part of Libya . The city was named in honour of the mythological Greek nymph Kurana. The city was founded in the 7 th century BC by Geek settlers from Thera. They were led by Battus chosen for the task by the oracle of Apollo at Delphi . Cyrene is one of the 5 cities of the Pentapolis (5 cities).
