Things to do in Kenya
Edit ThisKenya boasts of an array of stunning attractions for tourists. Apart from sightseeing, you can enjoy the outdoor activities that this beautiful country offers. Kenya Things to Do involves exploring the national parks, safari trips, beaches and trekking over mountains.
Masai Mara
Situated in southwestern Kenya, the Masai Mara is an enormous game reserve chock a block with wildlife. Deemed as one of the best national parks in the world for wildlife viewing, the Masai Mara is famed for its stupendous inhabitants including cheetah, leopard, Cape buffalo, hippopotami, black or white rhinoceros, zebra, gazelle, bat-eared fox and spotted hyena. Besides, over 450 species of birds including hornbills, secretary birds, crowned cranes, ostriches, African pygmy falcons and marabou storks are found aplenty in this park. The annual Great Migration of zebra, gazelle, and wildebeest from the Serengeti to Masai Mara during the months of July to October offers a spectacular view to the tourists. One of the interesting things to try in Kenya is to ride a hot air balloon to cover the entire terrain of the Masai Mara. You may also book a room in any of the best Kenyan safari lodges scattered around the Masai Mara reserve to add thrill to your trip.
Safaris
Your trip to Kenya would remain incomplete if you don’t take a safari here. Kenya, being full of national parks and reserves, you must ensure that you visit some of the finest national parks here. The Masai Mara, being the best national park in Africa, is the most visited one. Besides being famous for the Great Migration of zebra, gazelle and wildebeest, this national reserve also features a wide spectrum of animals and birds including lion, spotted hyena, Cape buffalo, rhinos, hornbills and leopard. Some safaris also give you the opportunity to explore Masai Villages where you can interact with the aboriginal Masai people. Aside from the safari in the Masai Mara, you can also take safari in Samburu Game Reserve which is a safe haven for such rare animals like long-necked gerenuk antelopes and Somali ostriches. Safaris through Ambosi National Park and Lake Nakaru National Park will also give you a once in a life time experience.
Beaches
Once you complete safari tours, you must embark upon exploring some of the awesome beaches in Kenya. Malindi, Watamu, Nyali and Lamu beaches are most popular here. Watamu Beach is an ideal place for snorkeling and scuba diving. The beautiful marine life with equally beautiful coral reefs will offer you a wholesome experience here. Malindi is another fine beach in Kenya, offering facilities for waterskiing, snorkeling, scuba diving and deep-sea fishing. This beach has some good restaurants nearby where you must try the local delicacy of smoked sailfish. Nyali beach located in Mombasa and Lamu Beach in Lamu Island are 2 other great beaches in Kenya worth spending a day.
Trekking over Mount Kilimanjaro or Mount Kenya
Located near the Kenya border, Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa. Mount Kenya, on the other hand, with an altitude of 17,058 feet is the second highest mountain in Africa. Both the mountains offer a splendid vista of the landscape billowing underneath. Both the summits being great for trekking, you must try ascending the both.
