The Railway Museum is at the end of Station Rd. near the Haile Selassie Ave roundabout. The road approach is from Nairobi Railway Station, from where it is signposted. If coming by taxi, make sure you tell your driver it's NOT the National Museum, since they are often confused!

The museum exhibits 10 old steam engines built between 1923 and 1955, as well as much material showing the history of Kenya as the railway helped it to develop. It is open from 8.30 am to 4:45 pm every day of the week and most holidays, and costs between KSh 50 (Kenya citizens) to KSh 200 (foreign visitors) to enter.  For enthusiasts, there are also two working restored steam locomotives kept in the nearby railway workshops - access is not usually a problem  - ask the museum curator to arrange a visit during weekdays. One of the steam locomotives usually hauls a tourist excursion from Nairobi to Naivasha ont he second Saturday of the month - and all-day outing which is great fun and highly recommended. Ask at the railway station.
