Family Travel Ideas in Nairobi
Edit ThisNairobi is a natural and fun-filled family holiday destination that offers several opportunities for wildlife spotting and mystical cultural discoveries. Here are a few ideas to make the most of your family vacation in this wild Kenyan hotspot.
Nairobi National Park
Hire a jeep and go game viewing and mammal spotting at Nairobi’s most illustrious wildlife park. Children will enjoy viewing some of most magnificent species of the big cats along with the wild buffaloes, rhinos, giraffes, zebras, warthogs and a host of other animals and birds in their natural surroundings. Visitors can also hire an experienced guide and take a nature walking trip at the Education Center. The park houses an Animal Orphanage that tends to sick and injured animals and nurses them back to health. March and April are the best months to visit the park since the yearly migration period offers an opportunity to view a greater variety of wildlife species.
Giraffe Center
The Giraffe Center is one of the most popular attractions for kids traveling to Nairobi. The center houses the endangered Rothschild Giraffes amidst a tranquil natural environment and visitors can hobnob with the graceful creatures, while indulging in delightful ‘giraffe feeding’ sessions. There is a self-guided nature trail for travelers looking to explore the natural beauty of the region. Visitors can also view several species of rare and indigenous birds in the lush greenery of the park.
Riuki Cultural Center
This is a nice place to get acquainted the tribal culture and ethnic profile of Kenya. The colorful Riuki Cultural Center hosts several local dance presentations, theatrical performances and cultural lectures to keep travelers enthralled. Visitors can even witness customs relating to the civilization and daily lifestyle of the Kikuyu Tribe and sample delicious local cuisine at the food center.
National Museum of Kenya
One of the most frequented family attractions in Nairobi is the National Museum of Kenya, a storehouse of pre-historical wonders and native artifacts. There is an art gallery showcasing the aesthetic prowess of Nairobi along with a National Archives Center that houses a huge collection of Kenyan snapshots and art.
Snake Park
View rare and fascinating varieties of reptiles including venomous snakes and deadly native crocodiles at the Snake Park. The poisonous and quirkily colored snakes are housed inside thin glass cages and deeply dug pits.
