7 Day Itinerary in Accra
Edit ThisShilpa Mudiganti
Accra is Ghana’s sea side capital with nearly two million residents. Accra has plenty to offer visitors and will provide you with a memorable experience. It is a mixture of big city business and laidback African ease. The people are warm and friendly. For a first timer, it is preferable to go on one of the package tours which are comprehensive, informative and value for money. You can choose from the different types of tours being offered from wildlife safaris, to nature trails, to the slave route.
Day 1: Culture and Shopping
The traditional welcome is followed by an orientation of the tour. Post lunch, the sightseeing would commence with a drive to Accra. The 128 year old city is a blend of colonial and modern architecture. Visit the W.E.B. Dubois Centre for Pan African Culture, Independence / Black Star Square and Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park (mausoleum of Ghana’s first president). At the Arts Centre, bargain and shop at the open air market for artifacts.
Day 2: Kakum National Park
Visit the Kakum National Park. Kakum is home to Africa’s only aerial walkway through the tree canopy.
Day 3: Owabi Wildlife Sanctuary
The Owabi Wildlife Sanctuary is home to many types of butterflies, over 140 species of birds, monkeys, and more reclusive bushpig, bushbuck, and antelope. Stay overnight at Kumasi.
Day 4: Kintampo Falls
The 80ft Kintampo falls are breathtaking with a small swimming area below. Boabeng Fiema is where the sacred monkeys live in harmony with the community. Stay overnight at Kumasi.
Day 5: Bobiri Forest Reserve
The Bobiri Forest Reserve has over 400 types of butterflies, and white nosed, green and black n white colobus monkeys. After lunch at Aburi, visit the Botanical gardens that overlook the coastal plain at a height of 1200 to 1500ft above sea level.
Day 6: Sacred Monkeys
At the Shai Hills forest reserve, you will get to see the most commonly found olive baboons and 170 species of birds, including the grey hornbill and Senegal parrot. Continue to Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctuary, home to sacred monkeys. Complete the exciting trip with visit to Wli (Agumatsa) Falls and then finally return to Accra.
Day 7: Kick Back and Relax
Enjoy the last day of the trip at leisure. Indulge in some shopping, or soaking in the warmth of the hospitality or just reveling in the laid back comfort of the place before the holiday ends!
