Despite the fact that this is not one of the most visited tourist destinations, Tanta is the fifth largest city in Egypt, between Alexandria and Cairo. It is home to a very prestigious university at the national level, which transforms the city into a destination usual for young Egyptian students. Of interest are the Coptic Metropolitan Church and the Museum of Tanta. In late October, after the cotton harvest, two million people gather to celebrate the Moulid of Sayid Ahmed el-Badawi, a feast of eight days. A delight to the taste are the sugared walnuts called the hubb el Azziz, Seeds of the Loved Prophet.
