Coloured Canyon
Edit ThisThe Coloured Canyon is a magical place within the Sinai Desert, where you can clearly see the different colors the Sinai consists of.
In Nuweiba, Dahab and Sharm al-Sheikh, jeep-trips are offered to visit the canyon. You are dropped off at the beginning of the canyon, where you will have to climb down. The 800 meter walk through the canyon takes roughly 1 hour, and you will have to master some obstacles on your way, where boulders fell down, maybe hundreds of years ago. Whenever in doubt about which way to take: keep right. At the end you will have to climb up again. Some trips include lunch in a bedouin tent. Don't forget to bring a bottle of water: the temperature in the canyon gets very high during the day.
Try to get there as early as possible. Not only because of the weather, but also to be there before all the other tourists. Egypt draws lots of tourist, and of course not all of them will visit the Sinai and the Coloured Canyon, but the magic of the place is best when on your own.
