Getting Around in Egypt
Edit ThisBy Nile
Edit ThisCruises
The romance of a Nile Cruise has sustained an industry of well over 200 steamers. A Nile Cruise used to be the only way tourists could get to the tombs and temples of Luxor. You can get excellent package deals usually ranging from 4-7 days. Most boats start off in Luxor, sailing down to Aswan, with stops at Esna, Edfu and Kom Ombo. By Feluccas Feluccas are lateen-sailed boats which have been used on the Nile since antiquity. Cruising on a Felucca at sunset is one of the pleasures of visiting Egypt. You can also opt for longer sails, heading down more..| World66 rating: | |

By Train
Edit ThisTrains are an excellent way to travel within Egypt. There are air-conditioned express trains as well as ordinary trains which tend to be a bit slower and less likely to have AC. Note that trains do not go to the Sinai or the main beach destinations of Hurghada and Sharm el Sheikh.

Accomodations
Edit ThisA great place to stay while in Cairo is the Canadian Hostel. Private rooms available, satelite TV in the common room, laundry machines on site, free breakfast. If I remember correctly, it was $15USD per night. Located right off of Tahrir Sqaure, downtown. If a prolonged stay there is planned, the hostel offers discounted group tours into the desert and other places during the high season.

By Air
Edit ThisWith the introduction of e-ticketing by EgyptAir in January of '07, air travel within Egypt is now more accessible and AFFORDABLE than ever before. With a little know-how, persistence and a bit of luck, you can often find flights for less than the price of a sleeper train ticket ($65), especially if you book far enough in advance.
Planes are clean and comfortable and a beverage is served.
No passports are needed, just your printed e-ticket.
