Day Trips
Edit ThisGame for some adventure?
Situated at a distance of 15 kilometers from the main Gaborone city,
Mokolodi is a fantastic wildlife preserve that houses a host of exotic
floral species and several rare breeds of native creatures like
the white rhinoceros, antelope, hyena and reedbuck along with a range
other wildlife gems. This reserve was created
to raise environmental awareness and to conserve the
depleting African wildlife. Visitors can take day game drives or guided
tours with rangers. Another popular
game retreat is the Gaborone Game Reserve, a nice escape spot that
provides plenty of spectacular natural vistas and features a bevy of
wildlife species. Other options for
game viewing include Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, Khutse Game Reserve,
Mabuasehube Game Reserve and Mawana Nature Reserve.
Trek up Kgale Hill
Kgale Hill is located in the western end of Gaborone city and offers visitors abundant opportunity for an adventurous trek to catch a spectacular view of the city and the its natural wonders. The view of the lush dams and waterfalls of the region from the hill is simply superb. There are three thrilling trails that reach the cliff of the hill and each of them is a complex maze of rugged trails that cut through steep rusty routes. Visitors can also spot black eagles, baboons and if you are lucky (or unlucky depending on the appetite of the creature) you can spot a magnificent leopard as well. Great option for a walk in the midst of wilderness.
St. Claire Lion Park
This one’s a classic for family picnics. The destination has a sprawling woodland and a gamut of outdoor activities along with a children’s ground and camping site. Apart from the normal game viewing tours, there are motor bike rides and horse trails. The park also includes an in-house restaurant and bar.
Gaborone is a super wildlife retreat that lets you bask in its wilderness while you also cheer its exotic cultural charm.
