Tunis and Rabat

Tunis and Rabat, both located a few kilometers to the northwest of Algiers, are frequented by several day trippers from Algiers. Tunisia is a nice mix of a contemporary and historical city that houses several ancient sites like the Medina and the statue of Khaldoun. Rabat, on the other hand, is a relatively unexplored tourist region that has a beautiful city palace and museum, showcasing memorabilia relating to the Moroccan culture and lifestyle. Visitors can also pick up some exquisite carpets at inexpensive rates from the markets of Rabat.

Alicante and Marseille

Hop into a ferry and visit the Alicante and Marseille, both pristine locales flaunting an impeccable climate and serene, relaxing beaches that are great for sunbathing and swimming. There are some nice heritage sites and monuments in Alicante.

Chrea National Park

The Chrea National Park is a pleasant retreat located in the Blida Province and is a vast mountainous area housing several species of flora and fauna. It is famous for its rare Atlas Cedar Forests and is one of the few habitats of the endangered and unusual Barbary Macaque. The region is also a popular ski station, where visitors flock to indulge in enjoyable skiing sessions on a completely natural belt of snow.

Cherchell

Located at approximately 95 kilometers to the west of Algiers, Cherchell is a tiny town that boasts of vast ancient ruins, old monuments and several glimpses of the Hellenistic culture. The region is also a very popular fishing center and is thronged by angling purists for its big catches.

Setif

Setif is one of the most popular day trip destinations from Algiers.  It is the coldest town in the country and is located at 1,096 meters above sea level. Visitors can witness an enjoyable snowfall and streets flanked by trees. The town square is a nice place to chill out with its fountain and a performing arts theater. Setif is very very French in appeal.

Algiers is a nice, historical and multi-ethnic city that is surrounded by regions that offer great day trip ideas.
